DIDIER VAN LAERE
 
Didier Van Laere (° 1971) is lawyer at the bar of Brussels and Ghent, specialized in tax law and corporate law. He obtained his law degree (1994) at the University of Ghent and is Graduate in Specialized Studies of Tax Law (University of Brussels-1995). He is one of the two founders of the Brussels law firm De Broeck Van Laere & Partners (1998). In contrast to traditional law firms who focus mainly on litigation work, he is profiled as business lawyer and aims to assist (prior to any conflict) companies, their directors and managers in the field of tax and corporate law.

Each company can be confronted with a variety of legal issues in its daily operations with clients, suppliers, employees, contractors,... He assists his clients to cope with these issues. He takes care of the legal aspects of the daily management, the setting up or acquisition of (new) business, the restructuring of existing activities, as well as drafting and negotiating process of any business contract, such as shareholders’ agreements, investment agreements, joint venture agreements, etc.

Didier Van Laere leads the M&A team at De Broeck Van Laere & Partners and has extensive experience in both national and international M&A transactions. A personal approach, adequate negotiation techniques and special attention to the tax implications define him. Over the years he has won several international awards. One of the biggest financial institutions in Belgium KBC refers to him as one of the preferential partners for M&A transactions.

Didier Van Laere is also often consulted for estate planning or private client advisory. He remains attached to the academic world through the teaching of master classes on current fiscal topics to the Brussels’ college FHS-Odisee.

Didier Van Laere is a regular contributor to the professional literature and also writes articles for non-specialized magazines. In 2004, he wrote along with his two partners the bestseller “Welcome Black” about the tax regularization in Belgium. His articles are regularly published on the website of his law firm, on LinkedIn and Twitter.

Didier Van Laere is a well-known speaker at lectures and seminars on tax and coporate law topics for various organizations (Odisee Seminars, MD Seminars, Kluwer, UAMS, Trends, tax business forum, BNP PARIBAS FORTIS, Deutsche Bank, Bank van Lanschot, SME Campus, Mentor, etc.), both for a professional as a mere private audience.

Didier Van Laere is trilingual (Dutch, French and English).
